Interior Design Internship
We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Interior Design Intern to join our Spatial Studio team at Opportune Interiors. The ideal candidate will have an interest in interior design and familiarity with mood board creation and space planning. This role will involve learning how to design functional, inspiring office environments and collaborate directly with clients (on-site) to bring their vision to life.
Type: Unpaid Internship | Flexible schedule up to 10 hours/week

about the role
What You'll Learn by Doing:
- Assist in designing and space planning for office environments and commercial spaces with guidance from our design team
- Create mood boards, concept presentations, and material palettes for client projects
- Participate in client meetings and communications, learning how to translate client needs into design solutions
- Contribute to project documentation, space assessments, and design deliverables
- Support furniture selection, layout planning, and finish specifications
- Shadow experienced designers on client projects from initial consultation to final installation

You're Perfect If You:
- Currently studying Interior Design, Architecture, Environmental Design, or related field
- Have interest in commercial interior design and want to develop these skills in a professional setting
- Have experience with design tools (SketchUp, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar software)
- Strong eye for color, composition, and spatial design
- Portfolio or design samples preferred (but we're more interested in your potential!)
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment in the DMV area
Bonus but not required:
- Familiarity with commercial design codes and ADA accessibility standards
- Experience creating mood boards or material specification sheets
- Understanding of sustainable design practices
